Different Seasons Bring Different Fish in Northeastern North Carolina

Spring

In early spring there is great speckled trout fishing in the Elizabeth River Hot Ditch. In the rivers of the Albemarle Sound there is abundant crappie fishing and striped bass fishing can be excellent in both the rivers and the sound. In spring largemouth bass fishing can also be good.

Summer

In summer there are lots of bottom feeders to fish for including croaker, spot, puppy drum, white perch and flounder. Stripers and largemouth bass can also be caught if you go looking for them.

Fall

In fall Striped Bass fishing picks back up and it is not uncommon to have 100 fish days with stripers schooling in the Albemarle Sound and its tributaries. This can be great fishing for fly fisherman as well. The speckled trout also start showing back up in the Elizabeth River Hot Ditch.

Winter

Striped bass in the rivers and the sound can be excellent along with yellow perch. The trout fishing in the Elizabeth River can also be great.
